What Is Girl In Space?

Girl In Space is a multiple award-winning sci-fi mystery podcast that follows the story of a young botanist on board an abandoned space station through her stream-of-conscious audio diaries. Season One begins with a narrow focus on just the main character, and gradually opens up to feature a full cast.

Season One includes 13 full episodes that range between 26 - 40 minutes. 

Girl In Space is currently free to listen to and advertisement-free. The show is supported by listeners like you via Patreon and Ko-Fi (and by whatever money Sarah happens to have in her bank account.) You can support the show by purchasing merch via our TeePublic Merch Store as well.

 

Will I Like Girl In Space?

The tone of Girl In Space is warm, intriguing, imaginative, and introspective, and largely set by the narrator — a smart, snarky yet kind-hearted female character with a fiercely independent and optimistic mind. Themes include freedom, humanity, truth, loneliness, beauty, individuality, capitalism, inner turmoil, and delicious cheeses.

If you're a fan of Firefly, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, The X-Files, Star Trek, Star Wars, Mass Effect, or books such as the Illuminae Files by Amie Kaufman or Kelley Armstrong’s Women of the Otherworld series, you may enjoy Girl In Space.

 

Is Girl In Space For Kids?

Girl In Space maintains a Clean (PG) rating, and was intentionally created for all ages to enjoy. However, it also features sci-fi violence, several adult philosophical and ethical issues, and includes vocabulary such as “coagulating,” “narcissism,” and “epigenetics”. There are no child characters in the show.

Parents may wish to listen to the first episode to get a feel for whether the material is appropriate for their children.

 

Trigger Warnings

There is some slightly disturbing imagery throughout (e.g., descriptions of wounds, blood on hands) and sci-fi gun violence. Each episode ends on a cliffhanger.

 

Release Schedule

The initial plan was for Girl In Space to release every other week. However, Sarah (the creator/writer/producer of the show) works several jobs and owns her own business in addition to creating the show, so sometimes LIFE happens. When Season 2 resumes, new episodes will debut every other week.

Launch & Upcoming Seasons

The Girl In Space podcast launched September 2017 to immediate acclaim. The first season consists of 13 episodes which released through August 2019. As of May 2021, a second season is being written.
